An open public-good licence for the Secure for Society Framework. Last updated 14 September 2026.
In short: the SFS Framework is published as an open public-good resource. You are free to read, share and reference it to build safer digital services. The trustmark, the registry and certification remain governed by MDIF.
The Secure for Society Framework — the criteria and guidance describing responsible security, privacy, accountability and digital practices — is published by the Modern Digital Innovation Foundation as an open public-good resource. Anyone may read, copy, share and adapt the Framework text for the purpose of understanding, teaching or improving digital trust, provided that MDIF is credited as the source and that adaptations are not presented as the official Framework.
This open licence covers the Framework document only. It does not grant any right to issue, display or imply a Secure for Society trustmark or certification, to use the "Secure for Society" name or SFS trustmark as a mark of certification, or to represent that a digital service has been assessed. The trustmark, the QR-linked public registry and the certification process are operated exclusively by MDIF and its authorised certification service.
The Framework is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Using or adapting the Framework does not create any certification, endorsement or liability on the part of MDIF.
